Motorclassica 2013 – the best yet!

Without a doubt the 2013 RACV Motorclassica was the best one yet!

Record crowds attended, with over 20,000 people visiting the show during the three days it was held. I had a feeling it was going to be a memorable show, since several major automotive anniversaries were being celebrated, including 50 years of Lamborghini, 100 years of Aston Martin and Bertone, and 60 years of the Chevrolet Corvette.

Speaking of Lamborghini, in addition to the cars displayed inside Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building, the local
clubs were also out in force. Without a doubt I have never seen so many Lamborghini’s in one place, ever! And not
just classic models either. With Lamborghini Australia present at the show, there was not one but two Aventadors
on display, including a stunning matt black roadster.

Jaguar was also another manufacturer with new models on display. It was great to see finally see the F-Type in the metal. It has some really nice design details, such as the way the logo is integrated into the flush fitting door handles.

James Bond was also in the building, with the 1969 Aston Martin DBS from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service present.
I was able to capture some exclusive behind the scenes photos for Tarmac Toys®, of the car being moved across from Melbourne Museum, and also video footage taken from the passengers seat as the car traveled through Melbourne earlier in the year! Temporarily on loan to Motorclassica, the genuine 007 Aston Martin has since returned to the Museum, for the Designing 007 exhibition which opens November 1.

Interestingly my favorite car from the show wasn’t the most expensive there, nor the oldest either. While there were not one but many Lamborghini Diablo’s at the show, there was one in silver which really caught my eye. I had never seen one in that color before, and it really looked glamorous. Almost as glamorous as the silver 1968 Miura that sold for $757,000 during the show’s auction!

A highlight of the show for me was definitely meeting legendary test driver Valentino Balboni, and conducting an exclusive one-on-one interview for Tarmac Toys®.
