DECA 31 Oct 2013

On this day.. The first sunny day in months, the clouds did part and the did people rejoice!

Hooray for DECA they chanted and hooray for sunshine!

Ahem! I’m glad that’s out of the system.
After last DECA, Michael and I had our work cut out for us to get the cars ready for the this evernt. The VK was suffering from some minor gearbox oil leaks and the MR2 had a serious case of “missing engine syndrome”, something we’ll cover in more detail as its build blog continues. Although I had rebuilt and refitted the MR2 engine it wasn’t really running well enough to compete in.

Towing the VK was so damn easy for this beast!

As usual our arrival was pretty late on Friday night, causing us to miss the SAU crew partying. While I usually regret missing the festivities on the Friday night, I was reminded on Saturday morning, when I the SAU crew enter Maccas (slightly seedy) that I made that right call 😉

Upon arrival at DECA it was evident that the field hadn’t changed much from the last event. 86/ BRZ’s seem to be locked in a battle for dominance (of numbers) against the remaining skylines. Nissan’s as ever held the majority, but it was interesting to see that the Orange 180SX (death on wheels 111) had been cloned. There new orange toys varied from relatively stock 180sx to full race spec  200?? and seemed to want a shot at the title.

The Mini Wang I think it’s safe to say has really seen better days and the SAU team agreed making last minuet alterations to the track to avoid the rear heavily degraded section.

The Mini Wang did claim 2 victims however. Sadly John in is Evo 6 (a late entry on the day) did have a pretty serious fight with his AWD system, which resulted in the car sliding off the track. In conversations with John, he mentioned that the car felt as if it had almost completely slowed down until it hit the grass which rather annoyingly was still wet week previously.

Luckily John wasn’t hurt and the damage to Evo was rather minimal. The second victim was a Mark on the Big Wang who happened to see John’s off, he was so distracted by John that he came off as well. Luckily there was no damage reported.

“EVO going off at 0.50. I then had an adventure into the grass at 1.15. Close up of the EVO at 3.00” Mark.

It didn’t take long for the rescue effort to get the Evo out of the ditch. and it was then driven / limped to the wash bays where the mud was removed and the damage assessed.
John passed on his thanks to the event organisers and participants who helped him via the Tarmac Toys® Facebook page.

The SAU team also seized the opportunity to get some filming done, go pro style and the result was pretty bloody good.

I’d like to highlight some interesting vehicles. The convertible BMW M3 looked like it was having a ball and the body roll seemed to really enhance the driver’s enjoyment as he flung it around the track.

To the 86/ BRZ crowd, wow! You lot have really improved as a group of drivers, I’m really starting to enjoy how neatly (easily) the cars are navigate the course.

We’ve got a massive amount of photos here (23gig worth), shot by the Lovely Cassie Linley. If we’ve missed your car sorry… Just contact us and we’ll gladly add some shots (if we have them).

Also if you’d like to add any comments, photos, videos to this or any other post let us know.
Stay cool

Lloyd out!

About the author: Lloyd Waldron

Cars are more then transport, they represent more than freedom or independence and they are a part of our identity. Cars reflect the personality of their owners. You can instantly tell if the owner takes pride in themselves; you'll know if they have a messy bedroom and occasionally you'll guess their sense of humor. Cars say so much about people, so I figure I should say something about them..
