Rear Swaybar

Early MR2 AW11’s were not built with a rear sway bar.

This makes the car incredibly unpredictable on long sweeping bends at speed. Which I found out the hard way when i spun off the track at Phillip Island last year. “Spin around”or “swapping ends” is a really common problem with mid-engined cars.

So, after some reading on the MR2 forums I ordered a 3 point adjustable 23mm white line rear sway bar.

The goal was to install the sway bar as level as possible. I used 2 pieces of 4ox20mm RHS tube which i bolted to the rear chassis rails, then i mounted the bar using some BA Falcon swaybar brackets and bushes. The next bit was a stroke of genius from Michael.

We went to “Pick a Part” with the goal of finding some drop links and you’ll never guess what we found attached to a Chrysler Neon.. YEP, a perfect drop link that bolts directly to the shock absorbers! WINNING!

My first outing with the sway bar was quite an adjustment! Still, it achieved a more predictable rear end which did get loose more easily, but I could feel it happening which made it easier to catch and control.
Very happy with this mod.

Cars are more then transport, they represent more than freedom or independence and they are a part of our identity. Cars reflect the personality of their owners. You can instantly tell if the owner takes pride in themselves; you'll know if they have a messy bedroom and occasionally you'll guess their sense of humor. Cars say so much about people, so I figure I should say something about them..
